Keynote Address:

Hon.Peter O’Neill, CMG MP, Prime Minister of PNG

PNG’s Economy in a Global Context
Hon. Peter O’Neill, CMG, MP, Prime Minister of PNG

Despite the PNG economy being depressed by the low commodity prices, there are still exciting resource opportunities for the country. The conference coupled with PNG’s hosting of the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Port Moresby in 2018 will provide a great opportunity to showcase the country’s enormous potential as an investment destination and to bring our people closer to the global markets in terms of trade and commerce. In view of these developments, the keynote address by the Prime Minister will be centred around “PNG’s Economy in a Global Context”, thus setting the scene for the broader conference theme ; “PNG Mining and Petroleum Industry in a Changing Global Environment”.

Conference also features:

Hon. Charles Abel, MP, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Treasury

National Budget and 2018 Outlook for Mining and Petroleum Industry

Hon. Charles Abel, MP, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister for Treasury

With the 2018 National Budget scheduled to be handed down few days before the conference, this provides the Government an excellent platform to present the Government’s position on the “2018 National Budget and Outlook for the Mining and Petroleum Industry in PNG”.

PNG Mining and Petroleum Investment Conference, Sydney:

This is the Chamber’s flagship biennial conference that showcases the PNG mining and petroleum industry to the international finance and investment sectors.  To achieve this, the event is convened in Sydney.

PNG Prime Minister Hon. Peter O'Neil speaking at the 13th PNG Mining and Petroleum Investment Conference in 2014

The conference has become firmly established as a prestigious forum that provides comprehensive information about the industry including the major projects, prospects, and exploration, as well as issues and future plans of the industry.  The direct participation of the Government of PNG, at the political and senior departmental level, ensures a full and balanced review of all significant policy issues.

The mining and petroleum industry is a global business.  It is imperative for the Chamber and the Government to promote internationally the progress and growth being achieved in PNG exploration and resource development, and the potential and opportunities for further success, to ensure that we maintain the support of investors, bankers, fund managers, financial advisers and analysts in the region.  The conference provides the venue for this sector to network with senior people in the industry, as well as Ministers and senior public servants who administer the industry.

Community Affairs Conference:

This event is held every two or three years.  It provides a forum for community relations and community development personnel in the mining and petroleum industry to hear presentations on current issues and to network and exchange ideas.
